Who we are
Smile Craft Dental is a family oriented dental practice and we love seeing children. Our friendly dental team will always go out of our way to make sure your child feels relaxed and comfortable during dental visits.
Some First Visit Tips:
- Read books with them about going to the dentist.
- Talk with them about what the dentist will be doing at the time of the first visit.
- Speak positively about your own dental experiences
First Dental Visit With Your Dentist?
- Examination of your child’s mouth, teeth, and gums.
- Evaluate adverse habits like thumb sucking
- Check to see if your child needs fluoride
- Teach you about cleaning your child’s teeth and gums.
- Suggest a schedule for regular dental visits.
Fissure sealants
Preventive fissure sealants are tooth coloured resin restorations applied to biting surfaces of healthy teeth to prevent decay. Decay can form in pits (fissures) and deep groves in the teeth that are too small to clean with a toothbrush. Usually no drilling or injections are required for this simple procedure./
Early Orthodontics evaluation
An early check-up may help in diagnosing problems with the alignment of teeth which could be corrected with early intervention. We can also find if any delay in the eruption of teeth or over retention of baby teeth, is causing problems in the alignment of teeth and jaws.
Fluoride treatment
Fluoride treatments offer additional protection for young teeth, helping to harden the tooth enamel, reducing the risk of cavities. During your child’s regular checkups we will assess their risk of tooth decay and will recommend regular fluoride treatments if and when required. Fluoride is applied topically to the teeth where it can easily penetrate the tooth enamel. This treatment is very safe, non-invasive and effective.
Mouthguards
Here at Smile Craft Dental, we want to do everything we can to make sure your child grows up with a healthy and fully intact smile which is why we thoroughly recommend custom-made sports mouthguards. A mouthguard will protect your child’s teeth and gums, minimising the risk of dental injuries as much as possible.
Frequently Asked Questions
The first “regular” dental visit should be just after your child’s second birthday when we will gently examine your child’s teeth and gums.
The first “regular” dental visit should be just after your child’s second birthday when we will gently examine your child’s teeth and gums.
First dental visits usually involve very little treatment. We may ask you to sit in the dental chair with your child in your lap. You may also be asked to wait in the reception area during their visit so that a rapport can be built between your child and our dentist. It will depend on how comfortable your child feels at visiting a dentist. This helps to build positive environment for future visits
Most children’s dentistry is preventive. We might need to take x-rays to find decay and check on the progress of your child’s permanent teeth under the gums. We may clean your child’s teeth and apply topical fluoride to help protect the teeth against decay. Most important of all, we will discuss with you how to clean and care for your child’s teeth. Please feel free to ask any questions you have about their dental care.
Most of the time cavities are due to a diet high in sugary foods and a lack of brushing. Limiting sugar intake and brushing regularly, of course, can help. Consistency of a person’s saliva also makes a difference. Thinner saliva breaks up and washes away food more quickly. When a person eats diets high in carbohydrates and sugars, they tend to have thicker saliva that allows more acid-producing bacteria that can cause cavities.
- Limit frequency of meals and snacks.
- Watch what you drink.
- Avoid sticky foods.
- Choose nutritious snacks.
-
Baby teeth are important as they not only hold space for permanent teeth, but they are important to chewing, biting, speech, and appearance.
